Gold Coast
Located about 45 minutes from the city of Brisbane and thanks to its huge leisure offerings, great beaches and subtropical climate, the Gold Coast is known as one of Australia’s biggest tourist destinations for both local and international visitors.
The main city in the north is Surfers Paradise and in the south, Coolangatta. The northern part of the Gold Coast is very developed with many high rise apartment blocks right on the beach and a big influx of tourists.
Coolangatta is much less developed and the atmosphere is much more ‘laid-back’. The best surf in Queensland is found on the Gold Coast (Snapper Rocks), where international competitions (ASP World Tour) are held annually. Other sporting events like the Gold Coast Marathon, Pan Pacific Master Games and horse races – Magic Millions also draw many people to the Gold Coast.
